Horn Portuguese Ensemble, yet unedited, was created in 2007 and was the fulfilling of a whole that existed in chamber music activity in Portugal.
At first it was composed by students of Abel Pereira’s horn Class at National Superior Orchestra Academy in Lisbon. Tthe group developed essentially a pedagogical and curricular activity, until Abel Pereira had decided to bet on this young musicians’ education, by professionalizing their activity.
Ever since its creation, in May 2007, with a concert at Procuradoria-Geral da República, the Horn Ensemble had already performed many concerts in Portugal and a tour in South Africa, last year.
The basis of the ensemble is formed by eight elements but the group has been presenting in its extended version, with many horn players and guest conductors.
Last October, the Horn Ensemble had performed the final concert of the I National Horn Congress, with 24 horn players, participants of the Congress and students from many different schools.
CD and DVD recordings, presentations in master-classes and performing of concerts in Portugal and other countries are the main goals of the Ensemble.
With a wide and eclectic repertoire, the group has performed very difficult pieces of music, both technically and interpretative, since most of them are arrangements for symphonic orchestra.
Virtuosity, dynamics and energy are the principle characteristics of this group that is starting a revolution in the art of playing horn.
In 2008, it will be the resident group of the Horn National Association, directed by Abel Pereira.
In this concert, Horn Portuguese Ensemble will have the special participation of a pianist, a bassist and a drummer for the execution of the works “Caravan”, by Duke Elington, and “Bohemian Rhapsody”, by Queen. On the stage there will be 17 horn players.
